Bathroom remodels we take on
We take on bathroom remodel projects across Austin, including hall baths shared by kids, primary baths, guest baths, and powder rooms. A worn-out tub or shower can be a starting point, as can cracked or loose tile. You may also be dealing with a vanity with no storage or a fan that doesn’t clear the steam.
In one kind of job, the fixtures stay where they are and we replace everything around them. In the other, the toilet, shower, or vanity moves to a new layout. Moving a toilet or shower means new drain and vent lines under the floor, so we check what’s under the floor before we draw the new layout. A primary bath can sometimes grow into a closet next to it when the wall between them isn’t load-bearing.
What's usually part of a bathroom remodel
A full bathroom remodel usually covers these parts of the room:
- We take the area around the tub or shower down to the studs and remove the old floor.
- We install a new shower valve and drain, replacing old supply lines while the wall is open.
- We put a waterproofing layer under the tile on the shower walls and floor.
- We install tile on the floor and in the shower.
- We replace the vanity, countertop, sink, toilet, mirror, and lights.
- We install an exhaust fan ducted outdoors and outlets with ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protection.
Keeping the tub or switching to a shower
A tub-and-shower combination fits the standard alcove and gives you a place to bathe small children or soak. A walk-in shower in that same alcove has a lower step-in and room for a bench or a niche.
We recommend keeping at least one tub somewhere in the house if you have small children or someone who likes a bath. If your primary bath has the floor space, it can hold both a freestanding tub and a separate shower. For details on the shower work, see walk-in showers and tub-to-shower conversions.
How a bathroom remodel runs
We pick the tile, vanity, fixtures, and shower glass first, then order them before demolition so your bathroom isn’t sitting open while parts arrive. Once demolition is done, we make the plumbing changes. On permitted work, the rough plumbing inspection follows those changes.
Before any tile is set, we put on the waterproofing and flood-test the shower floor by filling it with water and checking for leaks. Then we set the tile and install the vanity, toilet, and fixtures. We measure the shower glass once the tile is done, then install it. The final inspection and our walkthrough with you finish the work.
Permits and cost
The City of Austin requires a permit when you install or replace a tub or shower, even if nothing else in the room changes. We file it with the rest of the job, as explained in Austin remodel permits.
Angi’s Austin bathroom remodel cost page, updated February 25, 2026, publishes a range of $7,445 to $19,659 for most Austin projects. For ranges by scope and size, along with shower costs, see the bathroom remodel cost guide.
What to have ready for the walkthrough
When we walk your bathroom, it helps to have these details ready:
- Whether you’re keeping the tub, switching to a shower, or want both.
- Photos of bathrooms you like, along with any tile or vanity ideas.
- Who uses the room, including kids, guests, or someone who needs a grab bar or a seat.
- Problems now, such as a leak, a soft spot in the floor, a fan that doesn’t clear the steam, or weak water pressure.
- Whether another bathroom in the house will work while this one is torn out.
- The vanity size you want, and whether you want one sink or two.
